Mindfulness

Mindfulness.  What does that mean? Here is the definition:

“a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.”

I have been working on being mindful lately.  It is not an easy task as i am used to thinking ahead and planning.  I have researched and looked into many different techniques and have found the different breathing exercises to be of most help.

While taking a 30 day yoga challenge i have learned the 4 -4-4 breathing.

This has been a very relaxing breathing technique.  You inhale for a count of 4 and then hold your breath for a count of 4 and then exhale for a count of 4.

I have really been enjoying this yoga challenge.  I wanted to kick start my yoga practice and found this series and I highly recommend it.  It starts out slow and then get progressively more difficult (and i am only on day 7, yikes!)

I know finding time for yoga everyday or meditation is difficult for a lot of people.  That’s one of the reasons i like this series. It is between 20 min and a half hour so it doesn’t take up a whole lot of your day.

I recommend finding a small spot in your home and making it a quiet place for yourself.  Sometimes that can be difficult. Maybe just find a small corner if that is all you can find.  I have recently turned my back room into a place to do yoga and meditation and the small hobbies that i have.

I love Yoga but also know it is not for everybody but i think breathing is for everyone.  Whether you had a stressful day at work or are trying to get through a traumatic experience or having a child throwing a tantrum, taking a few minutes to breath can get you through the tough moments.

So,  inhale 1,2,3,4 hold 1,2,3,4, exhale 1,2,3,4 and repeat!   Watch how amazing you feel when you are done.
