Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks for all that we have. I also see it as a day to remember the yester years. I have such heartfelt memories of our Thanksgiving’s growing up. That was one of the few days we ate in the dining room. Our mom would bring out her good china and we would set the table.
I loved waking up in the morning to the smell of turkey and stuffing cooking. Oh how I love her stuffing. We didn’t have the usual bread stuffing. Our parents were from Ireland so we had a potato stuffing. I still love eating it to this day.
Being young I didn’t realize how much work went into hosting and cooking the Thanksgiving dinner. I remember my mom would be up so many hours earlier then us. And of course by the time she finished cooking and serving everyone and was ready to sit down and have coffee and dessert people were already getting ready to leave soon after.
I do not host Thanksgiving so I don’t get to wake up to the wonderful smell of stuffing cooking. Who am I kidding if I was hosting I would be the one doing the cooking so it wouldn’t have the same relaxing feeling! It’s these traditions that we all try to pass along to the next generations. It is what helps to create the cozy homes we all crave.
As this is a time to be grateful I know I am grateful for my family and friends. It has been a rough year personally and I am grateful for all the wonderful people in my life that have taken the ride with me this year.
I hope whatever traditions and celebrations that you have bring you comfort to you and your families.
We wish a very Happy, Safe and Peaceful Thanksgiving for all that our celebrating!
